Mit dem Contactjahr Hamburg laden Angela-Mara Florant und Elske Seidel Menschen mit solider Vorerfahrung und einem besonderen Interesse für CI ein über einen längeren Zeitraum intensiv gemeinsam zu tanzen, zu lernen und zu forschen.

In fünf aufeinander aufbauenden Modulen können wir Qualitäten in unserem Tanz immer weiter entwickeln, hilfreiche Techniken verstehen und anwenden lernen, somatisch-erlebend forschen und entdecken. Gehalten durch das langsam wachsende Vertrauen in der Gruppe können wir uns in unserem Tanz mutig erproben, zeigen und entwickeln.

Wir werden im Solo und im Duett arbeiten und das Spiel mit der Schwerkraft im Kontakt in seinen Feinheiten und in seiner Tiefe erforschen. Uns interessiert besonders, wie sich unsere Körper mit geteiltem Gewicht organisch organisieren, Spiralen ineinandergreifen und zusammenspielen und sich durch alle Ebenen hindurch unterstützen.

Darüber hinaus werden wir uns in unserer Tanzzeit üben unsere Wahrnehmung weiter zu öffnen, unsere Verbindung zur Gruppe, Trios, Kompositionen im Raum zu erkennen, zu ermöglichen und damit zu spielen.

Angela-Mara und Elske teilen beide eine tiefe Wertschätzung und Verbindung zu Nancy Stark Smith und sind in ihrer Arbeit und in ihrem Unterricht von ihr massgeblich beeinflusst. Das Erbe von Nancy lebt ein Stück weit in den Körpern weiter, die mit ihr im Kontakt waren und schimmert auch in unserem Unterricht immer wieder durch.

Über das Tanzen hinausschauend, liegt uns am Herzen, wie sich unsere Arbeit im Studio ausdehnt und überträgt auf unsere Zeit außerhalb, auf unser Umgehen miteinander in unserer Gruppe an unseren gemeinsamen Wochenenden und darüber hinaus.

This intensive learning format invites people with solid previous CI experience to dance and research together over an extended period. Our aim is to create a space where a group builds through familiarity and continuity. We believe in generating a field where trust and empathy grow naturally with time, enabling our dancing to deepen, develop and thrive.
The training is facilitated and co-taught by Angela-Mara Florant (Hamburg) and Elske
Seidel (Berlin). Both teachers will be present during all sessions, creating an easy,
inspirational learning space, sharing their joy, research and in-depth insights.
Our movement abilities and understanding will grow progressively across five modules.
Through this journey, we experience, understand and integrate helpful technical aspects and underlying principles, that support our ability to move and play with gravity through all levels. Somatic explorations will fine-tune our awareness, helping us notice the range of qualities in our moving bodies, inviting us into the depth of subtleties and flow of inspiration.
A core focus will be how our bodies naturally organize themselves in response to gravity as we fall and move with shared weight. We are continuously fascinated by how our bodies intertwine in spirals around a shared center of gravity in flying as well as in supporting. Spirals, a natural phenomenon reflected in our movement, are key to experiencing lightness, ease, effortlessness, continuation and flow.
Dancing together, we will expand our perception and train our ability to recognize, respond to and play with connections in space. We will practice possibility, moving through solos, duets, and trios into ensemble creation and noticing composition, as we enter the art of jamming.
Looking further, we care about how our work with the body and the practice of CI extends into our relationships and daily lives beyond the studio. How does it effect our interactions within the group, and how does it ripple out into our broader communities?

Elske Seidel (Berlin) and Angela-Mara Florant (Hamburg) share a deep fascination for opening and creating focused spaces in which CI can be lived, danced and explored. In this collaboration, they combine their many years of experience as dancers and teachers, their individual, intensive contact and movement research and their passion and dedication
for CI.
In co-teaching, their knowledge meets and a living research becomes visible. There exchange inspires and nourishes each other, as well as the dances and learning that emerge in this field.
Angela-Mara and Elske both share a deep appreciation for Nancy Stark Smith, and in their work glimpses of her may shine through. Nancy's legacy is alive in the bodies that were in contact with her and this knowing connects and grows through touch.
Elske Seidel
based in Berlin, is a passionate movement researcher, CI dancer & teacher, deeply committed to CI and its community internationally. She has been teaching dance and improvisation full time and wholeheartedly for three decades, CI since 2004. Her boundless fascination and joy exploring and researching Contact Improvisation in all its depth and subtleties, inspires her workshops, privates, ongoing classes, and each of the projects she creates.
She holds a master's degree in Sport Science, Education and English from the University of Hamburg, Germany. Her main research question 'the essence of dance and its teaching' motivates the heart of her work from her early days at University until the present day.
Her work recognizes nature as a core source for knowledge, understanding and inspiration. Meeting the moment, she offers organic support for the individual and the instant community as it emerges, allowing each to feel, find and follow what they need to grow and dance.
She initiated and (co-)teaches the following dance training programs: Contact Jahresgruppe Berlin, Contact Year Hamburg and CI BASIC Training Program Hamburg.

Angela-Mara Florant (Hamburg)

had her first experience with CI during her performance arts studies in Besançon, France. Based in Hamburg, she teaches several regular contact classes, gives workshops and organizes jams and festivals (NORDTANZ Festival). Since 2015, she is co- director of the dance studio “Triade” in Hamburg. In 2022, she brought to life the Contact CompanI, a dance company performing CI. When Angela-Mara is not dancing or teaching contact she is teaching corART (Pilates), directing independent theater productions, choreographing dance pieces (mostly based on CI). Teachers that have inspired her work are: Nancy Stark Smith, Jörg Hassmann, Nita Little, Anjelica Doniy, Mirva Mäkinen, Martin Keogh, Frey Faust, Scott Wells, Andrew Hardwood, Daniel Lepkoff,...

For me CI is an art form. I love allowing my dance to be inspired by the composition of the room.

CI opens up space,
Space within me and outside of me,
Creative space unfolding.

I enjoy looking at movement from an anatomical perspective and at the same time love the playful unfolding of stories that can occur while dancing CI. Over and over again finding and reinventing myself while continuously rediscovering and uncovering new aspects of the form are my favorite subjects of my ongoing research.
